Travel in Malta:
Malta is a small island in the Mediterranean and it is quite popular for its strategic place. In the past, because of this fact many held Malta under their control, where the most famous rulers of Malta are the Order of St. John and the British.
Being part of the European Union, made it easy for European citizens to travel to Malta, since they would benefit from EU laws, privileges, benefits and the European currency. Communication is not a concern in Malta since the official languages are both Maltese and English. Also, being so near to Italy, many Maltese citizens know Italian, thus omitting the language barrier. French, German and Spanish are also known by Maltese people, especially in the hospitality industry.
Traveling in Malta will be last of your concerns. First of all, being a small island one can visit all, or nearly all, the places in Malta. To facilitate this, the bus service (which is relatively cheap compared to other countries) in Malta runs all day and is available from every town in Malta and Gozo. On the other hand, if someone would like to travel alone, there is the possibility to rent a car.
The best period to visit Malta is between April to June, which is the period where there are the best temperatures. Another good period to visit is in the months of September and October, although sometimes the weather could be humid and there could still be some hot wind. If travelers prefer hot weather, the best period to visit Malta is in summer, so that one could also enjoy the fantastic beaches that there are found in Malta. In this season surely one can’t miss to visit the various beaches, such as Mellieha Bay, Blue lagoon in Comino, Ghajn Tuffieha and Golden Bay, to name a few. Then, if one prefers cold weather, the best period to visit would in the months from November till March, although some tourists wouldn’t be bothered by the cold weather, as the temperatures aren’t so low, apart from the months of December till February.
Activities in Malta are present throughout the year. In Summer tourists can enjoy the traditional religious feasts. These feasts are characterized from local feast band marches, fireworks, and religious processions. On the other hand, during Christmas and New Year’s period the streets are full with Christmas decorations. Roman Catholics can also celebrate these religious events during these periods in our numerous churches. An important religious occasion in Malta is the Holy week and Easter, featuring the religious procession on the Holy Week in various towns of Malta and also religious celebrations in churches and cathedrals.
Another important event longed for by both Maltese and tourist alike is the carnival, which comes in February, where travelers can enjoy various events which are organized, primarily in Valletta, the capital city of Malta, but also in Gozo. Traditional events that occur throughout the year consist of the Malta folk singing, Malta art festival and also the Fireworks festival.
Also, for the young travelers visiting Malta, especially in the months of August and December, one can enjoy various parties organized by the top music agencies on the island. These agencies organize massive parties and always seek to bring to most popular DJ’s from the whole world.
The Maltese islands are home of the oldest pre-historic Neolithic temples; namely Hagar Qim, Mnadjra, Tarxien Temples and the Ggantija in Gozo. Other cities of great cultural interest surround the fortified city of Valletta, Cospicua, Senglea and Vittoriosa also know as the Three Cities, the silent city Mdina, and the Citadella in Gozo.
